Our office recommends routine exams approximately every six months to examine the patient's mouth and teeth. The goal of these exams is to pinpoint any areas for potential care like tooth decay, gum health, bite, and teeth development in children.
Dental radiographs (X-rays) allow dentists to assess potential oral health problems that aren't visible to the naked eye, allowing them to form a detailed treatment plan. Our office recommends that X-rays are taken once a year for children and adults to ensure appropriate and up-to-date treatment.
Our office recommends routine teeth cleanings approximately every six months to keep gum tissue healthy and prevent periodontal disease. Dental instruments like the ultrasonic Cavitron and hand scalers are used to remove tartar or hardened plaque. After the plaque is removed, teeth are polished to eliminate any remaining stains on the enamel.
Fluoride treatments are given after teeth have been cleaned and are helpful in preventing tooth decay. Fluoride is most often given to children, but it works for patients of all ages! These treatments come in a stronger concentration of fluoride than over-the-counter formulas like toothpaste and mouthwash and are quick to apply.
Dental sealants are a very thin coating of glass ionomer that is painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth, usually the molars (back teeth). Sealants prevent decay by acting as a barrier against bacteria and acids. Sealants can last from five to 10 years and are given most commonly to children and teens. Adults with no decay or fillings in their molars can also benefit from this treatment.
Patients who suffer from teeth clenching, grinding, tight jaw pain, and stiffness can be contenders for a nightguard or occlusal guard. Nightguards won’t stop patients from clenching or grinding, but they can be a very effective way to protect teeth from unconscious oral habits during the day or night.
